Barking will be welcoming a new two-screen cinema where you can watch the latest big-name films, as well as a range of other exciting arts and cultural performances.

Built on the site of the former Abbey Sports Centre, there will also be 170 new homes and a new base for Care City, an innovative organisation supporting older people.

Are you aware that a cinema is under construction? Would you go?

On this site there will be a new public hall and square alongside 12 affordable homes and studios for artists who will support a year-round programme of activities for the local community.

Called ‘A House for Artists’, the homes will be let at 65% of market rent in exchange for a commitment to dedicating half a day a week to deliver a free, public event in the hall.

Barking Station will be seeing major improvements so that it better suits the needs of station users and provides a much better arrival point for those coming into the town centre.

The station, Vicarage Field, the market, Abbey Green and the River Roding will form a major route full of retail, cultural and leisure opportunities running through the town centre. Improving the connectivity, starting with Barking station will be important to this.

We're working proactively with c2c, Network Rail and Transport for London to transform the station and its surrounding environment as well as investigating options for improved rail services to and from Barking.

Do you agree this should be a key focus for regeneration? What would you like to see?

The redevelopment of Vicarage Field with will deliver better retail, improved leisure, and more health facilities for Barking.

Do you support the redevelopment of Vicarage Field into a new space with shops, leisure, health facilities, a primary school and homes?

The Abbey Green is an important recreational and heritage space in the Town Centre. That's why there are plans to include more spaces for people to relax and socialise, especially younger people

There will be well-lit paths between the town and the River Roding through Abbey Green, and towards Town Quay.

The areas beside the River Roding will have safe routes for cycling and walking, and efforts will be made to improve the biodiversity of the green spaces throughout the town

What can we do to make the Abbey Green more attractive to you and allow you to enjoy the space?

We spoke to local residents recently about the improvements you’d like to see in your area, and a number of you raised the play area opposite Mersea House block. We listened, and are delighted to inform you that proposals have been drawn up to fit new play equipment.

We are keen to hear from you which of the following schemes you think should be included. Arrangements will then be made to install the scheme with the highest votes.

    Option 1

    Option 2

What do you think? Let us know below...
