Gascoigne Ward Budget: Greatfields Park Improvements
The Gascoigne Ward Councillors, as part of their Ward Budgets are looking to improve Greatfields Park. We have several options, and we'd like your input in which you think are the most important to you. We don't have funds to deliver all of these improvements, so it's important that we choose the ones that are most popular. The funding is coming from the local Councillor Ward Budgets and from the Park Improvement Budget.
Updates

14 October 2021: Two of the most popular options were improvements to bench seating, and environmental & planting improvements. Which locations would you like to see these improvements? Please add your suggestions here. The other options are still being considered and we'll update you on these soon.
The Options
Option 1: Tennis court improvements | Clean the existing surface. Court surround fencing replacement and new access gates. New court line markings.
Option 2: New bench seating | Remove and replace some of the existing bench seats and consider potential new locations suggested by residents.
Option 3: Environmental improvements including new planting | Help transform the park by planting existing beds or the introduction of planting in new areas to create attractive displays and provide biodiversity. Possible sites to be discussed and agreed with residents.
Option 4: 1 on 1 basketball court | New facility. Located either by the tennis court or by the children's play area. Including new surface, lines, and hoop. Full design and potential locations to be discussed and agrred with residents.
Option 5: 5 a-side pitch | Installation of 2 permanent 5-a-side football goal posts on the grass open space to provide opportunities for casual games and informal leisure activities.
Option 6: Kids play area- small improvements | Repair and/or replacement of existing play equipment and safer surfacing. Subject to available space potentially install one or two items of new play equipment.
Option 7: kids play area- transformation project | A major redevelopment of the playground, including the complete renovation of play equipment, safer surfacing and associated infrastructure (e.g. boundary fencing, gates, signage etc). completely new surfaces, play equipment and fencing. Similar to the large scale schemes delivered at Valence Park and Tantony Green. A project of this size will cost around £200k-300k, and require an external funding bid, and could take around 2-3 years to deliver. Support from residents and park users will be crucial. |
Did you know that there is a residents park group, called Love Greatfields? It's run by local residents who keep an eye on the park, work with the Council and celebrate all the great things that take place. In July there was a 'Litter Pick-Nic', where residents did some litter picking and shared a picnic afterwards. If you use the park, then join in. Find them on Facebook here.
