Help Hunters Hall Primary pupils to get to school safely

Located on the busy and narrow Alibon Road, Hunters Hall Primary has issues with heavy traffic and dangerous parking at peak times.

To tackle these issues, we are proposing that from May, parts of Alibon Road and Rockwell Road become School Streets at pick up and drop off times.

This will create a pedestrian and cycle-only area in front of the school gates between the hours of 8am - 9:15am, and 2.45pm - 4pm during term time. This will alleviate congestion and parking problems for residents and create a safer environment for children and parents to travel to school.

The areas affected will be:

  • Alibon Road, between Hunters Hall Road and Wantz Road
  • Alibon Road, between Croppath Road and Hunters Hall Road, and
  • Rockwell Road.

You can see detailed maps here.

Please note that there will also be a School Street in front of Richard Alibon School on Alibon Road. You can travel north to south along Hunters Hall Road and Croppath Road without entering the School Street Zone.

Emergency vehicles will be exempt. Residents and businesses within the school street zone, carers and blue badge holders who require access to the school street, as well as school staff, can apply for an exemption free of charge. Residents’ parking will be unaffected.

  • So what about is working mums that need to drop of the kids and go straight to work without beening late where can we park

Caroline Coyle asked over 3 years ago

Hello, and thank you for your question.

We appreciate that working parents often need to drop their children at school on their way to work. For the health and safety of all children, and to improve congestion and air quality outside the school gates, we would encourage parents and guardians to park nearby if driving is their only viable travel choice, and walk the last few minutes of the journey with their child.

    Kind regards,

The School Streets, Safe Streets Team

  • How do I get parking exception as I work in a school.

Diane asked over 3 years ago

Hello, and thank you for your question. Currently, as we are only in the first stage of engagement and are gathering feedback, we are asking people who will be exempt not to apply for a permit yet, as the scheme is not yet finalised and could be subject to change.

After we have done initial engagement with residents and move on to the next stage of consultation, we will put a link on the website and in leaflets that we’ll distribute, that will allow you to apply for an exemption. We will ensure everyone is notified of this.

    Kind regards,

The School Streets, Safer Streets Team
