Cycle with GLOW

Are you a cyclist living in Barking and Dagenham?

Do you want to be part of an artwork that will bring light to people's doorsteps?

GLOW is a magical lights festival organised by local residents. In April, unexpected illuminated artworks will appear across the borough, created by cyclists on three evenings, travelling across different parts of the borough.

As a volunteer rider:

You will be able to cycle for up to 1.5 hours and or be able to cycle for approx. 10 miles at a slow/steady pace.

You will have your own bike, helmet and front & rear red safety lights.

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

You can participate in one or all of the cycle rides on the evenings of the 9th, 10th or 11th April. Just let us know when you sign up.

You will need to attend an online Health and Safety briefing and workshop.

If you are interested in participating, have experience of cycling but don’t currently have a helmet and/or safety light please do get in touch and we can see how we can help.

Please note this is NOT for beginners – you must feel confident cycling on roads and the length of time and distance outlined above. If you are interested in learning to ride or build confidence with cycling, please do take a look at our partners Vandome Cycles(External link) for their training programmes or pop along to one of their hubs.

The bike rides will be led by experienced cyclists from the Vandome Cycles(External link) team. All volunteer cyclists will attend an online workshop that will include a presentation by the artist, tips on decorating your bike and a health and safety briefing. We will be sending out a kit of lights to decorate your bikes in advance and we encourage you to get even more creative with your decorations!

All bikes will be checked on the day to ensure they are safe to ride and we will ensure we adhere to all current COVID restrictions and we will clearly communicate how to keep safe while participating in this project, including social distancing, masks and track and trace.
