The social infrastructure support service contract will be awarded to an organisation(s) to support the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE) in Barking and Dagenham from July 2024-2028.
The requirements of the contract will set out how, together, we can connect the VCSE and meet our ambitions as a borough for our residents. The support service will aim to build capacity in the sector, increase civic participation, and facilitate collaboration across the sector and with partners. In addition, it proposes measures to work towards more trust-based relationships across organisations and with the council and other statutory partners
As the borough continues to feel the effects of the pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis, the sector will continue to play a crucial role in supporting residents before they reach crisis point. A thriving social infrastructure can help more people access help in their communities and resolve problems sooner or access services when needed. share power partners and residents, and build cohesion across diverse communities, helping us reach the ambitions set out in the Borough Manifesto.
Over the past four years, the social infrastructure in Barking and Dagenham has seen many positive changes. We now have a local endowment fund which was developed by a resident panel, we have seen the growth of networks of VCSE groups working towards similar goals, and multiple collaborative opportunities for funding and delivery have been established.
We now want to have an open conversation with the VCSE sector in the borough: what is working well, what challenges our residents and local organisations face, and what the council can do to work with the sector to better support residents. This consultation, alongside a range of other engagement opportunities, will inform the specification and development of the contract.
