Tell us what you think of our draft masterplan
Barking and Dagenham Council has ambitious plans for growth, including the creation of thousands of new homes and jobs.
To help achieve this, the Council is looking at how the industrial land in and around River Road and Thames Road could be regenerated to support business growth, deliver modern industrial buildings, and a new vibrant community.
We have prepared a draft masterplan for this area, which will guide development in the area for the next 20 years. The technical name for this masterplan is the River Road Employment Area (including Kingsway Industrial Estate) Supplementary Planning Document. It will provide guidance on how the area will be developed and we will use it alongside our the new borough wide Local Plan to determine planning applications. It is vitally important for local residents and local businesses.

CPZ for Thames Road
I support the need for a CPZ along Thames Road. This would help clean up the existing parking issues and will help with supporting future residential development, which is set out to be low car ownership/ 'car lite' schemes.

De-industrialisation of Thames Road and River road
I think masterplan is not ambitious enough and wasting an opportunity to really regenerate the area. The area is one of most industrialised in London and needs de-industrialisation. No net loss target is good, but that should be achieved by relocating some of the industry elsewhere, e.g. Dagenham dock, etc. Zones 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7 can be made residential only with residential properties on the north of Roding riverside and footbridge to Beckton Nature Reserve. Some of mixed-use developments can be places on the borders with zone 4. Zone 4 should be intensified.

More green place
There should be more playgrounds and parks here also a sewage treatment plant and a rubbish dump should be moved create the possibility of walking and playing with children away from the stench and dirt that is ubiquitous in this part of Barking.

Additional Roads connecting to Barking/Dagenham
Currently we only have two exit points towards Dagenham/Barking using River Road, Renwick road or Choats road which all heavily depends on the traffic from A13. Any single event on A13 causes a long queue and we have no ways left to go out. Even there are times when Ambulance services were unable to reach on time due to the heavy traffic backlog. Masterplan should include more exit points or a bypass over or under the A13 towards Barking/Dagenham.

Clean up and reopen Ripple Reserve
The masterplan shows a "new or improved green link" in Ripple reserve. Ripple Reserve can provide an important green space for local residents and workers. Monitoring needs to be in place to prevent littering
