Post-16 Home to School / College Transport - Consultation on Proposed Policy Changes
Barking and Dagenham Council is reviewing its Post‑16 Travel Support Policy to make it clearer and easier to understand.
Travel support after Year 11 is different from what is provided during school. It does not continue automatically, and support must be applied for each year. Decisions are made based on individual needs and circumstances.
This is not a change to the support available, but a clarification of how decisions are made and what support may be offered.
The updated policy explains more clearly how travel support is assessed, what help may be available, and places a stronger focus on helping young people become more independent and use public transport where it is suitable. Council‑arranged transport, such as taxis or minibuses will continue to beconsidered, but is usually only provided where other options are not appropriate.
We want to understand how this clearer policy may affect young people, parents and carers, and education providers. Your feedback will help us make sure the policy is fair and works well for local families.
We are seeking views from:
young people
parents and carers
education providers
residents
voluntary organisations
This survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. All responses will be treated confidentially.
