Help Marsh Green Primary School children get to school safely

3 May 2023: Please refer to the latest update below

Marsh Green Primary School has issues with congestion at pick-up and drop-off times.

To reduce danger to the pupils and relieve congestion outside the school gates, we are proposing that North Close and South Close, both become School Streets at pick-up and drop-off times.

This will create a pedestrian and cycle-only area in front of the school gate between the hours of 8am - 9:15am, and 2.45pm - 4pm during term time. This will alleviate congestion and parking problems for residents and create a safer environment for children and parents to travel to school.

Emergency vehicles will be exempt. Residents and businesses within the school street zone, carers and blue badge holders who require access to the school street, as well as school staff (where the staff car park is within the school street zone), can apply for an exemption free of charge. Residents’ parking will be unaffected.

  • Hi, I live approximately 3 miles away from the school after moving houses. I now have to drive my children to school and back. What am I do to if I can't access these roads at school times

Ali.. asked over 1 year ago

Thank you for your enquiry. We are working with Marsh Green Primary School to implement a School Street Scheme in response to concerns of pupil safety and traffic congestion during drop-off and collection.

We encourage families such as yours to use public transport or to 'Park and Stride' to school. Park and Stride involves parking outside of the school street zone and walking the final 10 minutes or so to school. Park and Stride not only reduces congestion at the school gates helping to improve road safety and reduce air pollution from vehicles, it also improves the health and wellbeing of pupils through regular exercise to and from school. Two options for Park and Stride are:  Beam Park car park on Ballards Road or TK Max car park in Merrielands Crescent, off the A1396.

We hope the information above provides options you can take implement as we all work together to deliver a safer, less polluted, and healthier environment for all pupils at Marsh Green Primary School.

  • Who will be allowed to access these streets during the school times? Will it be vehicles with the HW permits? Or will we require an additional permit, thanks

Jade asked over 1 year ago

Residents will be able to access the streets during the hours of restriction 08:00am - 09:15am and 2:45pm - 4:00pm. Where a resident already holds Controlled Parking Zone permit they must also apply for a School Streets permit as the systems operate independently from one another.

More information on how to apply for an exemption and the documentation required is available here: School Street Permits

You can also read the full at School Streets Exemption Policy.

  • What are the street this will affect please
