Start or Join a Friends of Parks Group

Joining or starting a Friends of Park group is a great way to play an active role in shaping your local park or green space.


What is a Friends of Park Group?


Friends of Park groups are made u of local people who work with the Council to improve their local park. They might organise community volunteering days such as park clean ups, bulb planting or gardening. Other might be interested in exploring how their park could be improved by adding new play equipment, seating or trees.   • Newlands Park - Coronation Event

    Friends Of Newlands Park - Coronation Street Party

    Friends of Newlands park(External link), got together and organised a street party to celebrate the Coronation. There was great music, yummy food and lots of fun and laughter.

    The group was supported by friends and volunteers from the Shed Life project(External link) as well as Thames View community Hub.

    The group have also signed up to Park-tivity and are looking forward to FREE physical activity sessions in Newland parks this summer!

    Residents who love Great fields Park got together to remove litter in the park and share a picnic. It was a great way to meet neighbours whilst doing something positive and cleaning the park!

    Greatfields Park in Barking

    a charming "piece of green",

    Set in a position next to

    the busy A 13.

    As you enter from the left or the right,

    or from the gate near the traffic lights,

    All the noise of the traffic ringing in your ears

    as if carried on the breeze suddenly dissapears.

    It's not imagination no

    this is something real,

    It's the peace of the surroundings

    that you instantly feel.

    All around the perimeter

    On the 22nd of March 2021, community activist, Lisa Adams, shared her story of how she fundraised £270,000 to transform Valence Park, inspiring local residents to get started in their own local park.

    Here is an outline of her story:

    • Lisa recognised that facilities were in a poor or broken state
    • She reached out to Community Resources who put her in touch with Urban Sports to create a choice of designs for refurbishment
