BD Giving story- Almu and Valeria
I remember someone kindly reaching out saying, “I live in your area if you want a friendly chat over the phone let me know as I’m a social worker.” I think one positive thing that coronavirus is doing is breaking that fear of contacting your neighbour. Sometimes it seems we are so scared in this country of who lives next door, that we miss all the chances to build that sense of community. I’m a strong believer in that if you want to change something do it. Don’t wait for the government, don’t wait for anybody else. I think that small changes come from within. Residents Appreciation of the NHS
It has been wonderful seeing and hearing resident living near Roding River side coming out every Thursday showing their love and support for NHS. The loud cheer, clapping and sound of car horns is electrifying which brings joy to all residents during these challenging time.

Nighat Bhola- BD Giving Story
In Barking, the community has reacted to the crisis really well. The organisations and food banks have come together and are helping each other and I have been involved with that. I am really happy to help neighbours and also clap for the NHS but it’s not just about that. It has brought people closer together. The doors of communication have been opened. BD Giving Story- Darren Maun
The community has reacted well to the crisis overall. I think everybody has drawn from the positives. I’ve got a dog, so I walk the dog regularly and even with practising safe distancing, people are smiling, friendly and approachable. Within passing I can ask, “How are you?”. BD CAN has been helping those people who have no one to help them
The council and BD Collective, which is made up of lots of other local organisations, have been providing food parcels, shopping, medicine collections and telephone support to people who have no family to help them. Volunteers have signed up to help.
