We're refreshing our Carers Charter: Have your say

Consultation has concluded

Our Carers Charter has been recognised as best practice because it puts Carers at the centre, and their voices are clearly reflected through the ‘I Statements’. The Council recently achieved an outstanding rating in the CQC inspection, which highlighted that “Unpaid carers contributed to strategy development, including the carers charter.” This shows the strong and valuable relationship we have with carers and the important role they play in shaping how services are developed and delivered.

The Carers Charter sets out the commitments we make as a partnership to support carers. We also want to reach people who provide unpaid care and support to a loved one but may not recognise themselves as carers or informal carers.

It is our way of acknowledging the vital role you play in health and social care. It ensures your voice is heard and gives you the opportunity to work with us to shape and access the support and services that help you continue in your caring role.

We are now in the final stages of co-producing the refreshed Carers Charter after working closely with the Carers Centre, Carers Groups, Community and Voluntary Groups, and other stakeholders throughout Summer and Autumn 2025.

Carers told us that the original ‘I Statements’ are still relevant today, but they also helped us expand them and create new ones that reflect the realities of caring today.

We are now asking carers to rank the ‘I Statements’ from 1 to 6, with 1 being the most relevant to them and 6 being the least relevant.
