Brocklebank Lodge Development

Barking and Dagenham Council has agreed ambitious plans to build 53 new homes for local residents, on the site of Brocklebank Lodge, on Becontree Avenue. The plans will involve replacing the old building with 37 low rent homes for local people and 16 supported homes for disabled people, such as people who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The new development will also include a community facility built alongside the new homes.


Becontree Forever

Becontree Forever is a programme of art, architecture and new infrastructure to mark 100 years of the Becontree Estate in 2021. The Becontree Estate is the biggest council estate in the UK and the most ambitious of the country’s interwar housing estates. The first of 27,000 houses for returning war heroes and working families were built on the four square-mile estate in November 1921, with the ‘Garden City’ houses and iconic ‘Banjo’ closes recognised across the world. Voted by the Guardian as one of the 50 best free things to do in London, Valence House is situated a short walk away from Andrew's Corner, and tells the story of Barking and Dagenham through the ages. Find out more and check out their online exhibitions in the noticeboard tab below.

    100 years ago, the Becontree Estate was built. The largest social housing project in the world, the estate would go on to house over 100,000 people in 26,000 homes. Since then, Becontree has become home for many families, bringing with it a collection of beloved memories. Read more in this BBC article.
