Councillors have agreed to proceed with School Streets in your area

Councillors have agreed to introduce the School Streets – which aim to reduce road danger for children travelling to and from school on Halbutt Street and St Georges Road.

During term time only, number plate recognition cameras will be used to restrict unauthorised motor vehicles outside the school gates during the morning drop off and afternoon and pick up period.

The councillors noted that the consultation with parents and local residents was positive, with a significant majority favouring the introduction of School Streets. During this consultation, one of the most common requests from residents was to ask for implementation of a School Street on Halbutt Street in addition to the School Street on St Georges Road, as originally proposed. Following a period of data gathering and analysis, it was established that Halbutt Street has significant congestion and road safety issues in proximity to the school gates during pick-up and drop-off times. Consequently, councillors have agreed to introduce a School Street on Halbutt Street.

As a result of their decision, School Streets will be introduced on Halbutt Street (between Beverley Road & Westfield Road) and St Georges Road (between Beverley Road & Westfield Road) on the 10th July.

We have already written to everyone directly affected advising them how to apply for an exemption.

Thank you again to all the staff, local residents and parents who gave us their feedback.
