Trans Awareness Week 2023

Each year Barking & Dagenham Council takes part in Transgender Awareness Week and marks Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday 20th November.

The aim is to raise the visibility of transgender people and address issues that members of the community face and to honour the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence that year.

In the 2021 Census, of all English & Welsh local authorities, Barking & Dagenham had the:

• highest proportion of trans women (0.25%)

• 3rd highest proportion of trans men (0.24%)

As in previous years, we’ll be raising the Trans flag at the town hall with a short event on Monday 20th November, around lunchtime.

This year the Council and the Council’s LGBTQIA+ Staff Network would like to involve the Trans community and allies in the design and delivery of the event.

Please complete this short survey to tell us your ideas and to be kept up to date. The survey is open until 23 October.
