Thames Road Vision and Design Code

Barking and Dagenham sits within the Thames Estuary, the UK’s number one growth opportunity. Barking and Dagenham Council has ambitious plans for growth, including the creation of thousands of new homes and jobs, as set out in the draft Local Plan 2037.

On 14 May 2025, the Council adopted the Thames Road Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This SPD has been prepared to provide the policy framework for the regeneration of Thames Road and will be a material consideration in planning decisions.

The SPD provides a spatial vision for the development of 3,500 new homes, new high quality industrial spaces to support new jobs, revitalised public realm and green spaces, and new social infrastructure to provide for the existing and future community.

We sought feedback on the draft Thames Road SPD between 8 August 2024 to 30 September 2024 and revised the SPD to address feedback received.
