Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) - Heathway

Consultation has concluded

Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) are made under the Antisocial Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014. Public Spaces Protection Orders are a useful tool that provide the police and Council Enforcement Officers with the ability and powers to control activities that cause persistent anti-social behaviour that is either having or is likely to have a harmful effect on a local community’s quality of life.

PSPO’s support our aim to change behaviours, increase civic pride, alongside an ability to deal with matters effectively therefore The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) are seeking to continue enforcing the current PSPO in the Heathway (see map). The activities prohibited out are as follows:

  1. Consumption of alcohol in a public place
  2. Public urination
  3. Spitting
  4. Begging
  5. Groups engaging in behaviour which causes residents and other users of the area nuisance, annoyance, harassment, alarm, or distress.

The process of renewing PSPOs includes a consultation period to determine the activities enforced against have a positive effect on the local community. As part of the consultation process, we are looking to engage with residents to complete a short survey giving residents the opportunity to have an input in to the future of PSPOs.

The consultation will close on 19th July 2021.
