HAVE YOUR SAY - Help us create safer streets for cyclists in Marks Gate

Consultation has concluded

Be First as the regeneration delivery partner for Barking & Dagenham council, would like to introduce a new cycle route and improve cycling facilities spanning from High Road in Chadwell Heath to Rose Lane in Marks Gate. This is part of our Cycleways Network Development Programme (funded by Transport for London) and will enhance cycle connectivity and highway safety by introducing a signed, quiet cycle route alongside additional 20mph speed limits in the area.

The scheme will introduce approximately 1.5km of signposted cycle route along sections of Mill Lane, East Road, through the Padnall Hall development to Roles Grove and a section of Rose Lane.

Improvements proposed include dropped kerbs and sign posting, with the majority of the route being shared with vehicles.

The new 20mph speed limits on Mill Lane, East Road and Eastern Avenue West will be introduced in areas where traffic calming measures (including speed humps) are already in place. This is part of the borough’s approach to improving road safety and reducing collisions so that there are no deaths or serious injuries on our roads by 2041.

The intention is that the works will have a limited impact on businesses and residents whilst they are delivered. It is also unlikely that any existing car parking will be removed as part of the scheme.

You are invited to review the proposed changes and share your views by email to cycling@befirst.london or by writing in the comments box below.

The consultation is open until Sunday, 2 November 2025.
