Community Conversation - 04.03

On Thursday, the 4th of March, residents, community groups, and representatives from the Football Foundation, West Ham United, and the Council, came together to talk about how they could get involved in the Active Through Football programme. Below is a brief overview of what was discussed:

  • We should aim for a community-led approach
  • The average age of drop-off in football is around 15-16, so we are looking at ways to encourage those over 16 to get back into playing football and get active
  • Exploring the challenges to access such as health inequalities, gender, finance
  • There will be coach education pathways
  • There will be opportunities for mentoring in the community
  • The door is always open for local clubs to discuss how they can get involved
  • Opportunity to activate unused areas and play facilities
  • Chance to link to the Youth Zone and encourage those leaving to get involved
  • Potential for women-only and over 50’s sessions
  • Starting to map the spaces and areas that we can use and should benefit
  • Vision to grow the programme to more wards and groups in future years
